Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk

For the Caramel Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake:

    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Grease and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Make the Cake Batter:

    • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • In a separate large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Beat in eggs, one at a time, followed by vanilla extract.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, mixing until just combined.
  3. Bake the Cake:

    • Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
    • Let the cake cool completely before frosting.
  4. Make the Caramel Frosting:

    • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
    • Stir in brown sugar, heavy cream, and salt.
    • Bring to a boil, then simmer for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly.
    • Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
  5. Assemble the Cake:

    • Pour warm caramel frosting over the cooled cake, spreading evenly.
    • Let it set before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For extra caramel flavor, drizzle caramel sauce over each slice before serving.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Pairs perfectly with vanilla ice cream or a cup of coffee!
