Units Scale

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup sourdough starter (active or discard)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Garlic Butter Topping:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

  1. In a large bowl, mix sourdough starter, flour, salt, sugar, garlic powder, warm water, and olive oil.
  2. Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Cover and let rest for 1 hour, or until slightly puffy.

Shape the Knots:

  1. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions.
  2. Roll each portion into a rope and tie it into a knot.
  3. Place knots on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let them rise for 30 minutes.

Prepare the Garlic Butter:

  1. In a small bowl, mix melted butter, minced garlic, and chopped parsley.

Bake & Serve:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Brush the knots with garlic butter and sprinkle with cheddar and Parmesan cheese.
  3. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  4. Serve warm with extra garlic butter or marinara sauce.

Notes

  • For extra cheesiness, add mozzarella inside each knot before baking.
  • Brush with more garlic butter after baking for a richer flavor.
  • Best enjoyed fresh, but can be reheated in an oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes.
