For the Dough:
- 1 cup sourdough starter (active or discard)
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the Garlic Butter Topping:
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, mix sourdough starter, flour, salt, sugar, garlic powder, warm water, and olive oil.
- Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover and let rest for 1 hour, or until slightly puffy.
Shape the Knots:
- Divide the dough into 8 equal portions.
- Roll each portion into a rope and tie it into a knot.
- Place knots on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let them rise for 30 minutes.
Prepare the Garlic Butter:
- In a small bowl, mix melted butter, minced garlic, and chopped parsley.
Bake & Serve:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush the knots with garlic butter and sprinkle with cheddar and Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Serve warm with extra garlic butter or marinara sauce.
Notes
- For extra cheesiness, add mozzarella inside each knot before baking.
- Brush with more garlic butter after baking for a richer flavor.
- Best enjoyed fresh, but can be reheated in an oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes.
