Description

This SoCal Smash Burger is a crispy, juicy, and flavor-packed burger inspired by Southern California flavors. Featuring seared smash-style beef patties, melted cheddar cheese, creamy guacamole, and spicy pickled jalapeños, this burger is the perfect balance of bold and fresh. Whether you’re craving a quick homemade burger or looking for the ultimate West Coast burger experience, this recipe is a must-try!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 lb ground beef (80/20 mix)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 slices cheddar cheese
  • 2 hamburger buns
  • 1/4 cup guacamole
  • 4 slices pickled jalapeños

Instructions

  • Form the patties: Divide the ground beef into two equal balls.
  • Heat the skillet: Place a cast-iron skillet or griddle over high heat until smoking hot.
  • Smash & sear: Place one beef ball on the skillet and press down firmly with a spatula until very thin.
  • Season & cook: Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook for 2 minutes, then flip and immediately top with cheddar cheese. Cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  • Toast the buns: While the patties cook, toast hamburger buns in the same pan until golden brown.
  • Assemble the burger: Spread guacamole on the bottom bun, place the burger patties, and top with pickled jalapeños.
  • Serve hot & enjoy!

Notes

  • Use a burger press or the back of a sturdy spatula to get the perfect smash.
  • Swap cheddar cheese for pepper jack for extra heat.
  • Add crispy bacon or grilled onions for an even bigger flavor boost!
  • Serve with sweet potato fries or a side of elote for a full SoCal experience.
