Ingredients

Units Scale

Meat

  • 2 large chicken breasts, halved for thinner pieces

Produce

  • 1 medium-to-large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder

Canned Goods

  • 1 cup chicken broth

Condiments

  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Baking & Spices

  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for spice preference)
  • 1/2 cup flour (for dredging)
  • 1/2 tablespoon paprika
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

Oils & Vinegars

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Dairy

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (or whipping cream)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken:
    • Slice chicken breasts in half for thinner cutlets.
    • Season both sides with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
    • Dredge in flour, shaking off excess.
  2. Sear the Chicken:
    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Add chicken and cook for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the Gravy:
    • In the same skillet, melt butter and add sliced onions. Cook until softened and caramelized (about 5 minutes).
    • Stir in chicken broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up any browned bits from the pan.
  4. Combine & Simmer:
    • Return chicken to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
    • Stir in heavy cream, let it heat through for 2 minutes, then remove from heat.
  5. Serve & Enjoy:
    • Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or biscuits. Enjoy this rich and creamy dish!

Notes

  • For extra richness, substitute half-and-half for the heavy cream.
  • For more heat, increase the cayenne pepper or add red pepper flakes.
  • Make it even more flavorful by adding mushrooms or bell peppers to the onion gravy.
