Description

Crispy, golden sautéed potatoes tossed with caramelized onions, garlic, and paprika for a rich, flavorful Portuguese side dish. Perfect alongside grilled meats, seafood, or a hearty stew!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 lbs potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add diced potatoes and parboil for 5 minutes. Drain and pat dry to remove excess moisture.
  2. Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add onions and cook until soft and caramelized, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, oregano, and red pepper flakes.
  5. Add the parboiled potatoes to the pan, stirring occasionally, until crispy and golden brown, about 10-12 minutes.
  6. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot as a side dish.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, let the potatoes cook undisturbed for a couple of minutes before stirring.
  • Use Yukon Gold or waxy potatoes for the best texture.
  • Add a splash of white wine for a richer Portuguese touch.
