Description

Crispy, golden, and bursting with flavor, these oven-baked sweet potato fries are a healthier alternative to traditional fried options. Easy to make with simple ingredients, they’re naturally gluten-free, vegan, and perfect as a side, snack, or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium sweet potatoes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Step 2: Prepare the Sweet Potatoes

  • Peel the sweet potatoes and slice them into even sticks, about 1/4 inch thick, for uniform cooking.

Step 3: Coat the Fries

  • Place the sweet potato sticks in a large mixing bowl.
  • Sprinkle with cornstarch and toss to coat evenly.
  • Drizzle with olive oil and season with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Toss until the fries are evenly coated.

Step 4: Arrange and Bake

  • Spread the fries in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they don’t overlap (use two sheets if needed).
  • Bake for 20 minutes, then flip the fries and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes until golden and crispy.

Step 5: Serve

  • Let the fries cool slightly before serving.
  • Enjoy them with ketchup, aioli, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  1. Dry Sweet Potatoes Thoroughly: Moisture prevents crispiness, so pat them dry before adding cornstarch and oil.
  2. Avoid Overcrowding the Pan: Spread the fries in a single layer to prevent steaming. Use two pans if needed.
  3. Flip Halfway Through: Turn the fries during baking for even crispiness on all sides.
