- 1/2 cup butter, softened (1 stick)
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour (7.4 oz)
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup M&Ms (plus more for topping, if desired)
Instructions
1. Prep the Oven & Pan:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
2. Make the Cookie Dough:
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, then mix until smooth.
- Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt until just combined.
- Fold in the M&Ms (if mixing them into the dough).
3. Bake the Bars:
- Option 1: If you want M&Ms mixed inside, spread the dough evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Option 2: If you want M&Ms on top, bake for 10 minutes, then sprinkle M&Ms over the surface and return to the oven for another 10 minutes.
4. Cool & Serve:
- Let the bars cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Soft & Chewy Tip: Slightly underbake for an extra gooey texture.
