Description

This creamy and classic vanilla fudge is a melt-in-your-mouth treat made with simple ingredients like butter, condensed milk, and a hint of vanilla. Perfect for sharing at parties or gifting during the holidays, this easy-to-make fudge is rich, smooth, and absolutely irresistible!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 can (about 7 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 125 g (1/2 cup) unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Prepare the Pan:
    • Line an 8×8-inch square pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later. Lightly grease the parchment paper.
  • Heat the Ingredients:
    • In a medium-sized, heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the sugar, milk, sweetened condensed milk, butter, and salt.
    • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture begins to simmer.
  • Boil the Mixture:
    • Once simmering, reduce the heat slightly and let the mixture boil gently. Stir constantly to prevent sticking, and use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature. Heat until it reaches soft ball stage (234°F/112°C).
  • Remove from Heat and Add Vanilla:
    • Remove the saucepan from heat and allow it to cool for 5 minutes. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Beat the Mixture:
    • Using a wooden spoon or a hand mixer, beat the fudge mixture until it thickens and begins to lose its glossy appearance. This step is essential for achieving the fudge’s creamy texture.
  • Pour into the Pan:
    • Quickly pour the fudge into the prepared pan and spread it evenly with a spatula.
  • Let It Set:
    • Allow the fudge to cool completely at room temperature for about 2 hours, or until firm. For quicker setting, refrigerate for 1 hour.
  • Slice and Serve:
    • Once set, lift the fudge out of the pan using the parchment overhang. Slice into small squares and enjoy!

Notes

  • Storage: Store fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  • Gift Idea: Wrap individual squares in parchment or wax paper for an elegant homemade holiday gift.
  • Flavor Variations: Add chopped nuts, dried fruit, or white chocolate chips for extra texture and flavor.
