Instructions
Bake the Cake:
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
-
In another bowl, mix sugars, oil, eggs, vanilla, and buttermilk until smooth.
-
Combine wet and dry ingredients and pour into a greased baking dish.
-
Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool and crumble.
Make Blood Orange Compote: 6. In a small saucepan, heat blood orange juice, sugar, and zest.
7. Mix cornstarch with 1 tsp water, stir into the juice, and simmer until thickened (5–6 minutes). Let cool completely.
Prepare Galaxy Whip: 8. Whip cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
9. Divide into two bowls and tint one red, one pink. Swirl together gently with a spatula for a galaxy look.
Assemble in Jars: 10. In small jars or glasses, layer crumbled chocolate cake → blood orange compote → galaxy whip. Repeat the layers.
11. Top with a final swirl of galaxy whip, chocolate drizzle, and a fruit slice. Add edible glitter for a cosmic finish.
Notes
-
Galaxy effect is best achieved with gel food colors and light swirling—don’t overmix.
-
Blood orange compote can be made a day ahead and refrigerated.
-
