Ingredients

Scale

Refrigerated:

  • 2 eggs (1 for dough, 1 for egg wash)

Baking & Spices:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose or bread flour (plus 1/4 cup for dusting)
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp sesame seeds (optional, for topping)

Oils & Vinegars:

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Dairy:

  • 1 cup milk (reduced fat or whole milk, warmed to 110°F/45°C)

Instructions

1. Make the Dough:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, salt, and sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together warm milk, 1 egg, and vegetable oil.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.

2. Knead & Rise:

  1. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. (If using a stand mixer, knead with a dough hook on medium speed for 6-8 minutes.)
  2. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

3. Shape the Buns:

  1. Punch down the dough and divide it into 6-8 equal pieces.
  2. Shape each piece into a smooth ball and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  3. Cover loosely and let them rise for 30 minutes, until puffy.

4. Apply Egg Wash & Bake:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Brush the buns with egg wash (1 beaten egg mixed with 1 tsp water) and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  3. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.

5. Cool & Serve:

  1. Let the buns cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes before slicing.
  2. Enjoy with your favorite burgers, sandwiches, or sliders!

Notes

  • For extra soft buns, brush with melted butter after baking.
  • Make it whole wheat: Swap 1 cup of all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
