Description

Traditional Greek butter cookies dusted in powdered sugar, perfect for celebrations and festive occasions.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup almonds, toasted and chopped
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prepare: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream Butter & Sugar: In a bowl, cream butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolk and vanilla, mixing well.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and chopped almonds. Gradually add to the butter mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Shape Cookies: Roll dough into small rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake: Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  6. Dust with Sugar: While still warm, dust generously with powdered sugar.
  7. Cool & Serve: Let cookies cool completely before serving.

Notes

  • For a more authentic flavor, add a splash of ouzo or brandy to the dough.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
  • Double dust with powdered sugar for an extra snowy look.
