Ingredients

Units Scale

Produce:

  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup strawberries

Refrigerated:

  • 7 eggs

Condiments:

  • 1 cup maple syrup

Baking & Spices:

  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar (lightly packed)
  • 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Bread & Baked Goods:

  • 8 croissants (cut in half lengthwise) or 16 mini croissants

Dairy:

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups whole milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Croissants:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Cut croissants in half lengthwise and arrange them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Make the Custard Mixture:
    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, heavy whipping cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  3. Assemble the Casserole:
    • Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissants, making sure they are well soaked.
    • Sprinkle blueberries and sliced strawberries over the top.
  4. Bake:
    • Cover with foil and let the casserole sit for 15-20 minutes (or refrigerate overnight for better flavor).
    • Bake for 40-45 minutes, removing the foil for the last 10 minutes to achieve a golden, crispy top.
  5. Serve & Garnish:
    • Let the casserole cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
    • Serve warm with maple syrup and whipped cream if desired.

Notes

  • Overnight Option: Assemble the casserole the night before, cover, and refrigerate. Bake in the morning for a quick and easy brunch dish!
  • Nut-Free Alternative: Skip the almond extract and replace it with additional vanilla extract.
  • Extra Crunch: Add sliced almonds on top before baking for a crunchy texture.
  • Make it Sweeter: Add a drizzle of honey or extra maple syrup before serving.
