For the Casserole:
- 1 loaf brioche or French bread, cut into cubes
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Topping:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
- Prepare the Bread: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and fill with cubed bread.
- Make the Custard: In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Assemble: Pour the custard evenly over the bread, pressing gently so all pieces absorb the liquid. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
- Make the Topping: Mix melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a small bowl. Drizzle or dollop over the top of the soaked bread.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes or until golden brown and set in the center.
- Serve: Cool slightly, then top with powdered sugar, maple syrup, or fresh fruit if desired. Enjoy warm!
Notes
- Best when chilled overnight before baking for maximum flavor.
- You can add chopped pecans or fresh berries to the topping for variety.
- Leftovers can be stored in the fridge and reheated for up to 3 days.
