Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 1/2 cup assorted jams (strawberry, apricot, blueberry, or raspberry)

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prep:

    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Make the Dough:

    • In a bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
    • In another large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using), mixing well.
    • Gradually add the flour mixture, stirring until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Shape the Cookies:

    • Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
    • Use a small spoon or your finger to create five petal-shaped indentations around each cookie, leaving the center slightly raised.
  4. Fill with Jam:

    • Spoon a small amount of jam into each petal indentation.
    • Roll a tiny piece of dough into a small ball and place it in the center to complete the flower shape.
  5. Bake:

    • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
    • Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Serve & Enjoy!

    • These cookies are best enjoyed with tea or as a festive springtime treat.
