Description

This Seafood Bisque is a rich, creamy, and flavorful dish featuring succulent shrimp, crab, and lobster in a velvety broth. Perfect for special occasions or cozy dinners, this bisque is made with seafood broth, aromatic vegetables, and a touch of butter for an indulgent restaurant-quality meal at home.

Ingredients

Scale

Seafood:

  • 1/2 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 lb crab meat
  • 1/2 lb cooked lobster meat, chopped

Vegetables & Aromatics:

  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 1 carrot, diced

Dairy & Broth:

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups seafood broth (or fish stock)

Instructions

1. Sauté the Aromatics:

  1. In a large soup pot, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Add onion, celery, carrot, and garlic, and sauté for 3-4 minutes, until softened and fragrant.

2. Make the Roux:

  1. Stir in flour, cooking for 1-2 minutes, until the mixture turns golden brown.

3. Add the Broth & Simmer:

  1. Gradually pour in seafood broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
  2. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

4. Add the Seafood:

  1. Stir in shrimp, crab, and lobster, cooking for 5 minutes, or until the shrimp turns pink and opaque.

5. Blend & Serve: (Optional for a smoother bisque)

  1. For a creamy texture, use an immersion blender to partially blend the soup, leaving some chunks of seafood intact.
  2. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Serve hot with crusty bread or a side salad.

Notes

  • For an extra creamy bisque, add ½ cup heavy cream before serving.
  • Enhance flavor with a splash of white wine while simmering the broth.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley, chives, or a sprinkle of Old Bay seasoning.
