  • 6 cups chicken broth (or water)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Turkey & Broth

    • In a large pot, add the smoked turkey leg and pour in the chicken broth.
    • Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 30 minutes to infuse flavor.
  2. Sauté the Aromatics

    • Add chopped onions and garlic to the same pot.
    • Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Cook the Greens

    • Add the chopped collard greens to the pot, stirring well to coat with broth.

    • Remove the smoked turkey leg, shred the meat off the bone, and discard the skin and bones.
    • Return the shredded turkey meat to the pot.
  5. Add Finishing Touches

    • Stir in apple cider vinegar and sugar (if using).
    • Simmer for 5 more minutes to blend the flavors.
  6. Serve & Enjoy

Notes

  • Make-Ahead Tip: This dish tastes even better the next day as the flavors deepen. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • For Extra Flavor: Add a dash of hot sauce or a pinch of smoked paprika for a bolder taste.
  • Healthier Option: Reduce sodium by using low-sodium broth and adjusting salt to taste.
