Description

If you’re craving a cheesy, crispy stuffed pizza, this Classic Italian Calzone is the ultimate comfort food. Packed with creamy ricotta, gooey mozzarella, and flavorful Parmesan, this homemade pizza pocket is baked to golden perfection. Whether you’re celebrating National Pizza Party Day or just want an authentic Italian bite, this golden and flaky calzone is a must-try!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb pizza dough
  • 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Roll out the pizza dough into a large circle on a floured surface.
  3. Spread ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella, Parmesan, and a few spoonfuls of marinara sauce over one half of the dough.
  4. Sprinkle garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and salt over the filling.
  5. Fold the dough over to cover the filling, forming a half-moon shape. Seal the edges by pressing with a fork or twisting them.
  6. Brush the top with egg wash for a golden crust.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Garnish with fresh basil and serve with extra marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Customize your calzone: Add pepperoni, sautéed mushrooms, or spinach for extra flavor.
  • Prevent leaks: Seal the edges tightly and make a few small slits on top to let steam escape.
  • Dipping options: Serve with marinara, garlic butter, or a creamy Alfredo sauce.
  • Make it ahead: Prepare and freeze unbaked calzones, then bake straight from the freezer for an easy meal.
