Ingredients

Units Scale
For the Waffles:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Churro Coating:
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
For Topping:
  • Chocolate sauce
  • Whipped cream

Instructions

  • Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Make the waffle batter: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, mix eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  • Combine the wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just combined (don’t overmix).
  • Cook the waffles: Lightly grease the waffle iron and pour in the batter. Cook until golden brown and crisp.
  • Make the churro coating: In a shallow dish, mix granulated sugar and cinnamon.
  • Coat the waffles: Brush the cooked waffles with melted butter, then coat in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  • Serve: Drizzle with chocolate sauce and top with whipped cream before serving

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, let the waffles cool for a minute before brushing with butter.
  • Swap chocolate sauce for caramel or dulce de leche for a fun variation.
  • Works great with a Belgian waffle iron for deeper pockets to hold more toppings!
