For the Cake:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup honey
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
For the Chocolate Ganache:
- 1 cup dark chocolate, chopped
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat & Prepare: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch cake pan and line with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Prepare Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk honey, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
- Combine & Bake: Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Mix until just combined. Pour into the cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Make the Ganache: Heat cream until warm (not boiling), then pour over chopped chocolate. Stir in honey and vanilla until smooth.
- Assemble: Let the cake cool completely before spreading ganache over the top.
- Garnish: Decorate with edible flowers or a drizzle of extra honey for a stunning finish.
Notes
- For a spiced twist, add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon cardamom to the cake batter.
- Swap buttermilk with plain yogurt for a slightly tangier flavor.
