Description

This Chocolate Cream Cheese Danish is the perfect flaky, buttery pastry filled with rich chocolate and creamy cheesecake filling. Made with store-bought puff pastry, it’s an easy yet impressive breakfast, brunch, or dessert that’s guaranteed to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Danish:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

For the Egg Wash:

  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons milk

For the Glaze (Optional):

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 teaspoons milk

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat & Prepare Pastry

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet and place it on the baking sheet.

Step 2: Make the Filling

  1. In a bowl, beat cream cheese, granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla until smooth.
  2. Spread the cream cheese mixture down the center of the puff pastry.
  3. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the cream cheese layer.

Step 3: Shape the Danish

  1. Cut 1-inch slits along both sides of the pastry, leaving the center intact.
  2. Fold the strips overlapping like a braid to enclose the filling.

Step 4: Bake

  1. Brush the Danish with egg wash (egg, vanilla, and milk mixture) for a golden crust.
  2. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky.
  3. Let cool for 10 minutes before adding the glaze.

Step 5: Drizzle with Glaze (Optional)

  1. Mix powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk to create a smooth glaze.
  2. Drizzle over the Danish before serving.

Notes

  • For extra richness, add a sprinkle of chopped nuts or a drizzle of melted chocolate.
  • Make it fruity! Add raspberries or sliced strawberries before folding the pastry.
  • Serve warm for the best gooey chocolate experience!
