For the Danish:
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
For the Egg Wash:
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons milk
For the Glaze (Optional):
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 teaspoons milk
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat & Prepare Pastry
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet and place it on the baking sheet.
Step 2: Make the Filling
- In a bowl, beat cream cheese, granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla until smooth.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture down the center of the puff pastry.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips over the cream cheese layer.
Step 3: Shape the Danish
- Cut 1-inch slits along both sides of the pastry, leaving the center intact.
- Fold the strips overlapping like a braid to enclose the filling.
Step 4: Bake
- Brush the Danish with egg wash (egg, vanilla, and milk mixture) for a golden crust.
- Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before adding the glaze.
Step 5: Drizzle with Glaze (Optional)
- Mix powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk to create a smooth glaze.
- Drizzle over the Danish before serving.
