A soft and fluffy braided bread filled with rich tomato sauce and melty cheese, perfect for a savory treat or appetizer.

Ingredients

Units Scale
For the Dough:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
For the Filling:
  • 3/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm milk. Let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, melted butter, and egg. Knead until a soft, smooth dough forms. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  3. Shape the Bread: Roll out the dough into a large rectangle. Spread tomato sauce evenly over the surface.
  4. Sprinkle mozzarella, feta cheese, oregano, and garlic powder on top.
  5. Roll the dough into a log and slice it lengthwise. Twist the two halves together, keeping the cut sides up.
  6. Place the twisted dough into a loaf pan lined with parchment paper. Let rise for 30 minutes.
  7. Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  8. Serve: Let cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes or fresh basil before serving.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat before serving.
  • Perfect as a side for soups, pasta, or as a snack on its own.
