Description

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Caramel Glaze:
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a bowl, mix warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Prepare the Dough: Add sugar, melted butter, egg, vanilla, and salt, then mix well. Gradually add flour and knead until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour, until doubled in size.
  3. Shape the Donuts: Roll out the dough to ½-inch thickness, cut into donut shapes, and place on a floured surface. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  4. Fry the Donuts: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry each donut for 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Make the Caramel Glaze: In a saucepan, melt sugar over medium heat, stirring until it turns amber-colored. Carefully whisk in butter and heavy cream, stirring continuously. Remove from heat and mix in sea salt and vanilla. Let cool slightly.
  6. Glaze the Donuts: Dip warm donuts into the caramel glaze, letting the excess drip off. Let set before serving.

  • For extra flavor, sprinkle crushed nuts or flaky sea salt over the caramel glaze.
