Description

These Candied Orange Slices are beautifully translucent, sweet, chewy, and slightly tangy, making them perfect for snacking, decorating cakes, or adding to desserts. Plus, the leftover orange syrup can be used to enhance drinks and baked goods!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 organic oranges
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100ml) water

Instructions

1️⃣ Slice the Oranges

  1. Wash the oranges thoroughly.
  2. Slice into ¼-inch (½ cm) thick rounds, removing any seeds.

2️⃣ Make the Syrup

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar and water.
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the sugar dissolves.

3️⃣ Candy the Orange Slices

  1. Add the orange slices to the simmering syrup, ensuring they are fully submerged.
  2. Cover with a lid and let them simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  3. In the last 15 minutes, watch closely to prevent burning or syrup overflow.

4️⃣ Dry the Candied Orange Slices

  1. Remove the slices from the syrup using a fork or tongs.
  2. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Let them dry at room temperature for 1–2 days, flipping occasionally for even drying.

5️⃣ Store & Use

  • Store in an airtight glass jar in the fridge for up to 1 month.
  • Use leftover orange syrup to flavor tea, cakes, lemonade, or ice cream.

Notes

  • For a crispier texture, bake at 200°F (90°C) for 1 hour, flipping halfway through.
  • Sprinkle with sugar or dip in chocolate for extra indulgence!
  • Works great with other citrus fruits like lemons or blood oranges.
