Description

Crispy, golden croquettes filled with creamy shredded chicken—a beloved Brazilian street food perfect for snacking or parties.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups shredded cooked chicken
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: Heat olive oil in a pan and sauté onion and garlic until soft. Add shredded chicken, mix well, and stir in cream cheese. Season with salt and paprika. Set aside.
  2. Make the Dough: In a saucepan, bring chicken broth to a boil. Add flour all at once and stir vigorously until a dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead until smooth.
  4. Take small pieces of dough, flatten them, and place a spoonful of chicken filling inside. Shape into a teardrop (coxinha shape).
  5. Dip each coxinha into beaten eggs, then coat with breadcrumbs.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan and fry until golden brown.
  7. Drain on paper towels and serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, double coat the coxinhas by dipping them in egg and breadcrumbs twice.
  • Serve with Brazilian hot sauce or garlic aioli for added flavor.
