Description

This Aries Vanilla Swiss Roll Birthday Cake is a bold and eye-catching dessert, perfect for celebrating the passionate and adventurous spirit of Aries. With its soft and airy vanilla sponge cake rolled with a vibrant raspberry or strawberry filling, this cake is both visually stunning and deliciously light. Topped with a delicate dusting of powdered sugar, this elegant spiral cake makes for a unique and festive birthday centerpiece.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Vanilla Sponge Cake

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup whole milk

For the Filling

  • 1/2 cup raspberry or strawberry jam
  • 1/2 cup whipped cream (optional for extra creaminess)

For Decoration

  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Candles for a birthday touch

Instructions

1. Preheat & Prepare the Baking Pan

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line a 10×15-inch jelly roll pan with parchment paper and lightly grease it.

2. Make the Vanilla Sponge Batter

  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate large bowl, beat eggs and sugar until pale and fluffy (about 5 minutes).
  • Mix in vanilla extract.
  • Gently fold in the dry ingredients, alternating with milk, until just combined.

3. Bake & Roll the Cake

  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and springs back when touched.
  • Remove from the oven and immediately invert the cake onto a clean kitchen towel dusted with powdered sugar.
  • Peel off the parchment paper, then roll the cake gently but tightly with the towel. Let it cool completely.

4. Fill the Cake

  • Carefully unroll the cooled cake and spread raspberry or strawberry jam evenly over the surface.
  • If using, spread a thin layer of whipped cream on top of the jam.
  • Roll the cake back up without the towel, keeping it tight to form a beautiful spiral.

5. Decorate & Serve

  • Dust the top with powdered sugar for an elegant finish.
  • Add birthday candles for a festive Aries touch.

Notes

  • For a bolder flavor, use strawberry-chili jam to reflect Aries’ fiery personality.
  • Swap raspberry jam for lemon curd for a citrusy twist.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 1 day or refrigerate for up to 3 days.
